There aren’t many infinity pools in Portugal like this one, with such an ingenious and almost perfect view. A wide lawn and the path to a 3.5 km ecotrail surround it. Ahead, the private lake, with very clean waters and a diving platform almost at its center. In the distance, the plain where the River Almansor flows. Then, the hill with the medieval castle of Montemor-o-Novo. Yes, it’s hard to get out of this pool.

It’s no easier to choose between the many experiences that L’AND Vineyards has for us. First, and remembering that the Alentejo has another attractive plain – the sky –, you can book a hot air balloon ride. It starts early, to catch the sunrise, and then proceeds to take in the rolling hills and vineyards. This trip’s counterpart takes place at night, on land, but still pointing upwards. The Alentejo is a Dark Sky Reserve, extending over an area of about 10,000 square kilometers. So, guests can join a team of astronomers to spend a different evening watching the wonders the sky has to show.

But there’s more, much more. You can go horseback riding through the emblematic places of the property or do some cultural exploring in the surrounding areas. A private tour will take you to Montemor and Évora, a UNESCO cultural heritage site noted for its prehistoric, Roman and Arab monuments.

On the other hand, L’AND Vineyards is lavish in everything that makes wine an element of well-being. Producing mainly some extraordinary reds – one of the most interesting experiences is the Make Your Own Wine masterclass, a challenge to create a personal blend (along with wine tastings and tours of the specially curated small wineries in the region) –, it boasts vinotherapy treatments.

The 800 sqm spa is a tranquil sanctuary of relaxation and rejuvenation. It uses wine by-products like grapes, seed, skins, pulp and stems to provide exceptional face and body rituals and massages. What’s more, there’s something not to be missed: the floral and grape oil bath, with dried petals, salts, and exfoliating seeds. A sense of calm and grounding is guaranteed.

The tranquility extends to the deluxe villas – the Lake villas are very special, with a swimming pool and private patio –, and the suites. Try the most unique of these: it’s called Sky View. It has a plunge pool and, as the name suggests, the ceiling will open over the bed, if you wish, pairing with the star-gazing experience mentioned above.

Amongst all this, guests are certainly impressed by Mapa, L’AND Vineyards’s restaurant run by chef David Jesus, who has extensive Michelin starred experience. Here, as he says, “new paths are explored, celebrating the meeting of cultures resulting from eras of interchange”.

But it’s time to get back to that infinity pool, right? We told you it would be hard to get out of there…
